À L'ORÉE DES PAUPIÈRES, by MARIE GUILLARD

This is Marie Guillard’s fourth exhibition at LA SLOW gallery, and this time the artist is presenting pastels with sublime matt, powdery and velvety-smooth surfaces.

Always on the edge of reality, each of her drawings opens a gateway to the strange.

With this new exhibition, ‘À l’orée des paupières’, the artist moves a little further towards surrealism and invites us to cross that boundary. Her imagination, richly nourished by her reading – books mean the world to her – is deeply rooted in her dreams; she records them in a notebook, and they form a major source of inspiration for this exhibition. In a somewhat hazy state of consciousness – neither quite asleep nor quite awake – the imagination soars and allows itself anything: the impossible becomes possible.

One savours every drawing, whose intense and strange beauty evokes a sense of exhilaration, carefreeness and lightness, so much so that one would like never to reconnect with reality, and to settle permanently on the edge of Marie’s eyelids...
