GWLADYS MOREY exhibits "EN ROUE LIBRE". 25/02/2026 - 28/03/2026

Nine years after her first exhibition, ‘Sabroso’, Gwladys Morey is exhibiting ‘En roue libre’ at the Slow Galerie Luxembourg. Opening night on 25 February at 60 Rue Monsieur le Prince, 75006 Paris, fr

Colours and movement characterise the work of Gwladys, who chose screen printing and its close cousin risography to produce the forty or so illustrations on display. The vast majority of the screen prints were made by Gwladys, who is passionately involved in this craft. At a time when AI is gaining ground every day, this is an act of resistance! The treatment of her drawings, with layers of colour superimposed, sometimes slightly offset, results in a vibrant energy and an eminently lively beauty. The artist clearly had a lot of fun, and it shows: inspired by the popular imagery of the funfair, she has concocted a series of visuals on this theme, entitled ‘la petite loterie de la vie’ (the little lottery of life), like playing cards barely larger than the palm of your hand: these cards are a kaleidoscope of her moods, a joyfully chaotic mix of fury and harmony, as when she depicts herself as a cannon woman or compares a couple to a wrestling match. In short, Gwladys recounts her life and its ups and downs with great humour and infectious joy.

And then there is this large silkscreen print, ‘Alma e Peña’, another example of this artist's unique artistry, who is also capable of creating compositions in which not a single square centimetre resists her enthusiasm. the crowd is so dense that the eye cannot immediately distinguish all the characters perfectly intertwined with each other as if in a giant embrace, where the promiscuity is intense, graceful and warm at the same time. We know how complex this kind of composition can be, where density could undermine coherence, but Gwladys, the tightrope walker, also knows how to juggle perfectly between simple, powerfully funny drawings and intense compositions full of panache. In fact, if Gwladys were a word in the English language, it seems that ‘panache’ would suit her perfectly!
