Hélène Glowinski exhibits "Parfois à ma fenêtre" at the Slow Galerie Luxembourg

Come discover Hélène Glowinski’s woodcuts and monotypes at 60 Rue Monsieur Le Prince, 75006 Paris, from April 22 to May 23 (closed May 6–9)

After working as an architect for several years, Hélène Glowinski now devotes herself to wood engraving. Instinctively drawn to abstraction—which offers her total freedom and endless possibilities for experimentation—her drawings are primarily inspired by a deep need for peace and well-being. She has chosen the living, warm material of wood to stay as close as possible to her feelings. In addition to the engraved motif, the grain of the wood also appears; each drawing carries a dual meaning, like an extra layer of soul, a second voice. Hélène’s work, in its simplicity and uniqueness, is pure poetry.

This theme of the window, as a symbol of openness and passage, resonates deeply with her early professional path: architecture.

The window is an open boundary between the intimate and the horizon. Like others before me, I am captivated by the dual perspective offered by this theme of the window: inside/outside, the exterior from the interior/the interior from the exterior—what is seen/the one who sees, the rhythm of a facade/the intimacy of an interior…

From the skills honed in her first profession, artist Hélène Glowinski has drawn her secret weapon: a perfect sense of balance and observation for her engravings that border on abstraction.
